Onion prices continued to rise in India's capital New Delhi on Thursday on sustained buying by stockists amid restricted arrivals from western region due to heavy rains.

Marketmen said arrival of 30 trucks of onion from producing region of Nasik in Maharashtra and about 40 trucks from Rajasthan were much below the average of 110 trucks daily.

They said traders were less interested in buying from far areas of western region due to ongoing heavy rains and were placing orders from Rajasthan.

Onion Rajasthan variety rose by Rs 40/50 to Rs 180-250 per 40 kg while Nasik variety rose by Rs 25 to Rs 250-325 per 40 kilo.

Onion Indore variety rose Rs 25 to Rs 225-275 per 40 kg.

Tomato prices also rose on sustained buying by retailers amid restricted arrivals.

Arrivals of total 45 trucks of tomato, including 30 trucks from Solan, was less than the average demand of the market, a leading trader Raj Kumar Karnalwala said.

Tomato Ladwa (Haryana) and Solan (Simla) firmed by Rs 50 to Rs 75 at Rs 100-200 and Rs 250-350per box of 25 kg respectively on poor supply from producing regions.

However, Potato price declined due to increased arrivals from producing regions like Simla, Una and Haldwani.

Total availability of potato into the market were 132 trucks, in which 115 trucks were in cold-storage.

Potato Solan (Simla) traded lower by Rs 25 to Rs 450-650 per 80 kilo bag.

Potato Agra superior quality traded lower Rs 10 to Rs 270-330 while inferior variety traded at Rs 200-275 per 80 kilo bags.
