At least the house has voted to block the decrease in Medicare doctors' fees which for primary care and some other specialists are already low. Few and fewer doctors are going to be willing to take Medicare patients. Extra paper work is involved, so I predict that many more doctors will begin to insist on payment up front if they are going to see a patient.

Mr. Bush has said he will veto the bill to block the cut in doctors' Medicare fees even though 129 Republicans voted for the bill. Of course Mr. Bush and those who work with him get the best in medical care at no cost. Senators and representatives also get excellent medical care at no cost.

An article in the June 25, 2008 New York Times by Robert Pear states that this bill will reduce co-payments for mental health services, increase assistance to low-income patients and make several other good changes.

Let's hope that when this administration is out of office, that a new administration will care more about low income, disabled, and sick patients than does the present, wealthy administation.
