Continuing the summer season of the Talcott Mountain Music Festival, presented by Chubb, guest conductor Michael Berkowitz will lead the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in a tribute to Motown and R&B with vocal quartet Spectum on Friday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows.
Spectrum performs the exhilarating music that has shaped America, as the angelic harmonies of members Darryl Grant, Pierre Jovan, David Prescott, and Cushney Roberts blend on the chart-topping hits of the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Drifters, and more, with snazzy costumes and exciting choreography.
After spending six stellar years recreating the sound and style of the Four Tops in Las Vegas' multi-million dollar production shows, Spectrum has developed the versatility to credibly cover the music of the evolution of Motown and R&B. Guest conductor Michael Berkowitz says "I am so excited to once again be working with the wonderful Hartford Symphony and also with Spectrum, an amazing group of singers who do Motown music better than anyone out there."
"They sound spectacular singing the music I grew up with...every number is a Top Ten hit! It's hard not to dance on the podium all night. To have the music of Motown along with the world-class Hartford Symphony in one of the most beautiful venues anywhere...this promises to be a night to remember. I can't wait!"
The members of Spectrum consist of recording artist Darryl Grant of Oakland, California, Chicago-born musician and versatile entertainer Pierre Jovan, David Prescott the soaring-voiced first tenor from Rochester, New York, and singer, actor and group founder Cushney Roberts, who left the life of a Princeton-educated corporate engineer and cut his teeth in the casino lounges en route to becoming a well-respected Las Vegas showroom entertainer. -- www.hartfordsymphony.org
