Imation Corp, a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, today announced the general availability of the Imation Odyssey(TM) solution for entry-level users seeking ultra-reliable, disk-based storage. Imation-designed Odyssey removable hard disk cartridges -- now available in 40GB, 80GB and 120GB capacities -- contain a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive, and the Odyssey external docking station is ideally suited for an office desktop. Future internal versions will fit into any 5.25-inch half-height or 3.5-inch full- height and slimline drive bays, creating a solution that enables efficient and low-cost backup.
"We needed a solution that was easy to use, reliable and portable," said Joe Ertl, owner of E/B Productions, an instructional video production company. "Imation's Odyssey technology was solidly built and provided us with a rugged and removable solution that allows us to easily store and transport projects and large data files at a low cost."
Imation developed the Odyssey system to ensure total data protection. Cartridges were designed and tested to successfully withstand a one meter drop onto a solid surface and the company also incorporated electrostatic discharge (ESD) to circumvent data loss caused by static build-up, which often results from cartridge handling and transport. The technology also boasts forward and backward compatibility and superior connector reliability. Now available, Imation's initial Odyssey offering includes an external dock using a USB 2.0 interface, an Odyssey cartridge and EMC Retrospect(R) software for backup and recovery.
EMC Retrospect software makes it easy for users to protect their data. The award-winning software installs in minutes and delivers fast backups, accurate restores and full disaster recovery with minimal manual effort or expertise. Further, with government-certified AES encryption -- the highest level of protection available -- EMC Retrospect ensures a users' sensitive data will remain safe and secure.
"More than ever, small and home office users are demanding more effective data protection," said John Palmer, Head of Business Operations for SMB Products, EMC. "The combination of Imation's Odyssey solution with EMC Retrospect software provides users with complete and easy-to-use data protection that automatically conducts fast backups and smart restores."
"Imation is pleased to announce the availability of the Odyssey solution with EMC Retrospect software, a powerful, yet easy-to-use, data protection solution for entry-level users," said James Ellis, vice president, Strategic Growth Programs, Imation. "Today's Odyssey solution announcement continues to bolster Imation's position as a leader in the removable hard disk space and strengthen the company's commitment to advancing the development, manufacture and supply of removable data storage."
Imation's Odyssey solution with EMC Retrospect software is available for a manufacturer's suggested retail price ranging from $249 to 349, based on capacity, for an external USB docking station and Odyssey cartridge.
