
Demonstrates leadership in defining quality and process standards and benchmarks for the IT services industry
Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited today announced that it has been assessed at Level 5 for the CMMI V1.2 model. This assessment covers the whole of Wipro Technologies across all verticals, horizontals and development centers and for the first time, included Wipro's onsite delivery components.
Wipro is among the first few organizations in the world to be assessed at Maturity Level 5 based on the CMMI Ver. 1.2 model. The assessment led by KPMG as per the SCAMPI 1.2 methodology prescribed by Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI) evaluated Wipro on stringent parameters including the deployment of process frameworks, usage of process optimization tools and techniques like Lean and Six Sigma, integrated team structures at the project level and top management commitment to institutionalization of quality across the organization.
The assessment methodology, rated amongst the best in class in terms of the scale and rigor, involved document reviews and interviews for large programs, functional area group interviews, middle and senior management interviews as well as interviews of various service functions at Wipro.

He further added, "This assessment also highlights Wipro's ability to implement better predicting techniques and ensure a more proactive quantitative management across various types of projects"Â.
The lead assessor also observed that the data from the practice of the quality system was analysed and fed back at the strategic and operational level thereby ensuring continual improvement.

Wipro had earlier achieved Level 5 based on the CMMI Ver. 1.1 model in 2002.
The Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute (SEI) had released the latest version 1.2 of CMMI model and latest version 1.2 of Standard CMMI Appraisal Methodology for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) in August 2006. Subsequently, SEI authorized only a selected few High Maturity Lead Appraisers (HMLA) after undergoing a stringent evaluation criteria - Wipro.
