The exhibition Rembrandt and the Golden Age; Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum opened in the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio in the United States. The exhibition was put together by the Rijksmuseum and consists of over 100 paintings and other works of art, including several works by Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Ruysdael and Frans Hals.
This is the first time that an exhibition of this size containing artworks from the Rijksmuseum collection has been shown in the United States.
The exhibition Rembrandt and the Golden Age: Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum will tour the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio (through 7 January 2007), the Phoenix Art Museum in Phoenix, Arizona (27 January - 6 May 2007) and the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon (26 May - 16 September 2007).
The main building of the Rijksmuseum is undergoing a process of modernisation, remodelling and renovation, which will be complete at the end of 2009. Until then, the Rijksmuseum aims to continue showing the collection to as broad a public as possible both within and outside the Netherlands.
Therefore, the Rijksmuseum is showing masterpieces from its collection in the Philips Wing of the museum and loaning parts of the collection to museums in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, as well as organising travelling exhibitions to countries such as the United States, Japan and Australia. -- www.rijksmuseum.nl
