Animal Rescue Site Raises Nearly $8,000 for Cedar Rapids Shelter

Visitors to the Animal Rescue Site (www.theanimalrescuesite.com) donated nearly $8,000 to provide relief for animal victims of the Midwest floods in June.

Through the site’s Gifts That Give More™ program, the $7,975.00 donated in June for the relief of animal victims was distributed by GreaterGood.org to the Humane Society of the United States to support their work in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

“The Humane Society of the United States’ Emergency Services department has been quite busy the past several weeks responding to devastating flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We sent a dozen HSUS staff and dozens of National Disaster Animal Response Team volunteers to the affected area to perform water and land rescues and oversee emergency animal sheltering,” reported Scotlund Haisley, HSUS senior director of Emergency Services .

Haisley continued, “In addition, we set up a temporary animal shelter housing and caring for more than 1,200 animals. The generous grant received from Greatergood.org helped fund the expenses for this shelter, in addition to helping cover the medical costs for these animals. As many as 50 people per day have been flocking to the emergency shelter to be reunited with their missing pets. Many of these people had lost everything they owned, but their main priority was finding their missing animal companions. I feel honored that our team was able to help ease their pain by bringing their pets safely back to them.”

The Animal Rescue Site began raising money for Midwest animal victims on June 16, 2008, and will continue to take donations throughout this difficult time to support the work of animal rescue charities.
