The exhibition coming in oming Summer 2010 will examine the process of imagining and shaping the varied forms of the American dwelling and will survey the country's expansive range of residential building types—from Monticello to the mobile home. Set within the context of evolving artistic, technological, and societal issues, House and Home will examine how change is reflected in our domestic building endeavors and will discuss the roles of such wide-ranging phenomenon as the enduring allure of the Colonial Revival style, the efficiency of balloon frame construction, and the inequities of segregated housing.

The exhibition will also pose questions about how our nation's identity is reflected in the environment we have built for ourselves and how our homes are embodiments of our most deeply held ideals. -- www.nbm.org
