Aside Productions will kick off the evening with “The Memoir,” a play by Woodlands High School graduate and St. Edward’s senior Kristine Carr. “The Memoir” is the story of Kit, an adolescent girl grappling with the death of her father and the cleaning up the mess he left behind. “The Memoir” features TWHS alumni and current University of Houston attendee, Sidney Rascoe, as Kit, the emotionally restrained daughter who is trying to put her life together. Sidney appeared in TWHS’s 2007 UIL State competitor, The Little Foxes, and recently performed as Lachesis in Aside Productions’ Moirae. “The Memoir” cast also features Woodlands High School senior Jennyfer Vargas, University of Nebraska senior Noel Yuri-Bermudez, and Woodlands College Park seniors Toni Casserly and Ryan Elliott. Aside Productions’ board member, Rachael Camp, will direct “The Memoir”.
Following “The Memoir,” is the ten-minute drama, “World Collapsing” written and directed by Aside founder and board member, James Canfield. “World Collapsing” tells the story of two women who were in love with the same man, and when that man goes missing during the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, the two women must come to grips with the loss and with each other. “World Collapsing” features Aside playwright and actress, Kristine Carr, who recently appeared as Clotho in Aside Productions’ Moirae, and Aside newcomer Kendall McClellan.
Finishing the new play festival is the over the top comedy, “Boss of Boston” by TWHS junior, Tyler Lewis. Developed during The Woodlands High School’s newly initiated playwriting class tells the story of Danny, a young boy just trying to survive his first day at his new job. Josiah Miller, a junior at TWHS, will be playing the role of Danny. Josiah recently appeared at Mr. Fulton in TWHS’ Disney’s High School Musical 2 and as the lead in The Woodlands Rep’s The Fantasticks. The cast of characters features students from The Woodlands High School, Woodlands College Park, Sam Houston State University, Lonestar College, University of Nebraska, and Laurel Springs High School. Aside board member, Diane Goldsmith, will direct “Boss of Boston.”
Aside Productions will present “An Evening of Original Plays” on July 31st and August 4th at the Woodlands Community Center. It is located at the corner of Lake Robbins Dr. and Grogan’s Mill in the Woodlands, TX. Admission for the festival is $5.
“An Evening of Original Plays” may not be suitable for young audiences.
