Climate change, global warming seriously affect public health and may lead to an increased number of deaths.
A new report by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) doesn't mention how many deaths will occur because of climate change and the report doesn't aim at counting possible death cases, but it aims at explaining that these deaths are preventable.
Heat waves will cause heat related deaths, increased ozone will cause lung and heart diseases, hurricanes, wildfires will cause deaths to those living close to forests and waters. Public will experience lack of drinking water, and those living in cities will need more energy to cool their homes and offices down.
Climate change related health risks will mostly affect poor, elderly, uninsured, and disabled. Public will feel how hot summers become and it will become hotter during a very short period of time.
There are also other researches showing how deadly global warming can be, and most of public already understand how aggressive the fight against climate change needs to be. However, understanding the problem is not enough, serious actions need to be taken.
Last year Supreme Court authorised EPA to regulate greenhouse gas emissions in case of proving that the emissions pose health risk, but EPA decided to take actions only after Bush administration changes early next year. EPA representative said that actions need to be taken, but the agency need to clarify those actions to make sure they are targeted.
