Microsoft: Democratizing Game Development With Xbox Live

Microsoft Corporation has recently announced that independent developers will now be able to sell their Xbox games through their brand.

These are great news for thousands of students, professionals and game fans, who will now have the opportunity to submit their own creations for peer review. If they are accepted, their work will be available to download from the XBOX online store and the author will keep 70% of the total sell.

Besides the economic benefit, amateur developers will have a chance to start a career in the game industry.

In order to participate, candidates must first become members of the XNA Creators Club. The XNA Creators Club is a community all about games made by players and amateur creators. Members get powerful tools for making their own games on Windows and Xbox 360, and an arsenal of educational and community resources on the XNA Creators Club Online Website.

Membership has a yearly cost of $99.

'Let the user create' seems to be the tag line for those websites that wish to continue innovating and leading the Internet. With this decision, Microsoft is joining the increasing trend which bases products and services on the material visitors develop themselves such as Facebook, MySpace and Youtube.

Although these last websites do not share their profits with their users, they certainly are a great way people have to promote their efforts. On top of this, Microsoft has decided to trust its members by sharing their income, setting a new standard for online communities.
