TiVo Subscribers to Buy From Amazon Using Remote Control

TiVo has woken up from its television advertising slumber to strike a partnership with Amazon that seems to be welcome news for online shopping addicts. TiVo, who pioneered the digital video recorder (DVR), is looking to exploit the lucrative e-commerce business by striking a partnership with Amazon.

With the looming deal, TV viewers can purchase products on Amazon by simply using their remote control. It seems this deal might have come just at the right time. Consumers have always longed for a way of purchasing products displayed within a show or commercial without leaving their couch.

According to the deal, TiVo subscribers will be in position to popular products using the DVR's on-screen menu which has links to purchase items like books, CD’s and DVDs. It’s even more interesting because you can easily but products being featured on popular programs like The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Daily show and the late Show. According to TiVo, they are working on ways to include options where viewers can buy from links placed alongside live programs and commercials.

Of recent, TiVo has been shifting its strategy away from the traditional play set-top boxes in favor of new business lines which involves software-licensing agreements and advertising services.TiVo also wants to move away from the arguably successful television business model which is usually disrupted by allowing viewers to skip past commercials.

According to TiVo, they expect to launch in union with four TV shows: the Oprah Winfrey Show; The Colbert Report; The Ellen DeGeneres Show; and Burn Notice. All these services can be accessed through broadband-connected Series 2, Series 3, and TiVo HD DVRs.
Director of broadband services for TiVo, Evan Young said that a "product is seen or advertised on any TV show or network, and sold by Amazon.com it can be merchandised to viewers through TiVo."
TiVo spokeswoman, Jessica Loebig confirmed Evan Young’s statement by saying that the goods available are not only restricted to the mentioned shows. However, users are only able to buy CDs, books, and DVDs.

TiVo assures its customers that they can easily buy a book being hawked by a guest on a particular show without missing the show whether recorded or live.

TiVo already has a partnership with Amazon where TiVo viewers can buy or rent movies from Amazon's digital download service, Video on Demand.
