Medpedia: The Largest Medical Wikipedia Announced Today

The medical field as for long been hailed has a profession which constantly brings new findings and innovations. However, even with all the available wealth of information in the medical filed, there has been no central website which offers an online collaborative medical encyclopedia for use by the general public. That is why the creation of supposedly the world’s largest online medical encyclopedia called Medpedia was announced today.

The site known as Medpedia expects launch by the end of 2008 and will offer free information to the public.

Medpedia will target volunteer information from, medical schools, hospitals and health organizations about health, medicine and the body.

In association with Harvard Medical School, Stanford School of Medicine, Berkeley School of Public Health, University of Michigan Medical School and other leading global health organizations, the Medpedia community seeks to create the most comprehensive and collaborative medical resource in the world. Medpedia will serve as a catalog, database, and learning tool about health, medicine and the body for doctors, scientists, policymakers, students and citizens that will improve medical literacy worldwide.

The Medpedia Project is an extraordinary global effort to collect, organize and make understandable, the world’s best information about health, medicine and the body and make it freely available on the website Medpedia.com. Physicians, health organizations, medical schools, hospitals, health professionals, and dedicated individuals are coming together to build the most comprehensive medical resource in the world that will benefit millions of people every year.

The site will feature content about diseases, anatomy, procedures, medications and medical facilities in two ways. The topic front page will be written in easy-to-understand language for the general public, but there will also be a more technical page where medical professionals can discuss more in-depth with a clinical tone.

MedPedia was originally founded by James Currier, a seasoned Silicon Valley entrepreneur.
