Blue Angels Week
Thursday, July 31 – Sunday, August 3
The world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels again return to star in the KeyBank Air Show at Seafair presented by Boeing. The Museum of Flight is proud to be their Seattle headquarters! See the C-130 “Fat Albert” support aircraft and the F/A-18s parked near the Museum. Enjoy the precise pre-flight walk downs, feel the thrilling formation takeoffs and meet some of the Navy’s finest pilots as they return from their practice sessions and show performances.

We’ve got the blues…and we’re happy about it! Once again, the spectacular Blue Angels are visiting Seattle and The Museum of Flight. In celebration, all Blue Angels fans are invited to stop by the Museum’s activity area to make fabulous Blue Angels souvenirs.
Sled Driver, Year 17
Friday, August 1 – Sunday, August 3, 2 p.m. in the William M. Allen Theater
Photographer, author, pilot and showman Brian Shul, who traveled the air show circuit with the Blue Angels for his book “Blue Angels: A Portrait of Gold,” shares tales from his own flight history as a “sled driver”—an SR-71 Blackbird pilot. Shul’s book “Sled Driver,” featuring his photography and prose, was the first book to put the reader into the cockpit of the world’s fastest, highest-flying piloted jet. His ever popular slideshow and talk presents dazzling images and fascinating stories from the book and beyond. Hear riveting accounts of Mach 3 runs over hostile territory and stargazing at 80,000 feet. And if you haven’t already heard Shul explain it, be sure to ask how SLOW a Blackbird can go! This marks the 17th year Shul has appeared at the Museum during Blue Angels week—a tradition not to be missed.
“Band of Brothers” Lectures and Book Signings
Saturday, August 9 at 2 p.m. in the William M. Allen Theater
Two of the original members of “Easy Company” (E Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division) which was immortalized in the book and mini-series “Band of Brothers” have written their stories in newly released books. Tech. Sgt. Donald Malarkey will talk about his new book “Easy Company Soldier,” and 1st Lt. Lynn “Buck” Compton will present his memoir “Call of Duty” which has a forward written by Presidential candidate John McCain. Both authors will sign copies of their books after the presentation. Both books will be available for purchase in the Museum Store.

Saturdays and Sundays, August 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
Can you keep a secret? You don’t need top secret clearance to come to this program…but it would help! Learn about the SR-71, known as the Blackbird—the most amazing spy plane to ever take to the skies. Then make your own SR-71 model.
The P-40 Warhawk over China
Saturday, August 23 at 2 p.m. in the William M. Allen Theater
Author Carl Molesworth has written several books about the P-40 Warhawk, including “Sharks Over China: The 23rd Fighter Group in World War II.” The 23rd was the successor to the American Volunteer Group, the famous “Flying Tigers.” Molesworth will share stories of the plane and the men who flew them. -- www.museumofflight.org
