Triple Bill Of Irish Contemporary Choreography

Unlikely dance subject matters of office politics, peace negotiations and Gaelic football combine perfectly to create a triple bill of contemporary Irish choreography at Dance Base this festival.

Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance and Dance Ireland, Ireland's key dance resource organisation and independent dance producer Richard Wakely are proud to present Irish Cream. This inaugural Celtic collaboration will see an exchange of five Irish companies perform at Dance Base during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and four Scottish companies make the return journey in September to perform on the Dublin Fringe.

Catapult Dance's Beatbox Bingo is a high energy dance piece with live music from New York beatboxer Adam Matta and Justin Carroll on "Hammond" keyboards. Choreographer Rebecca Walter's style stretches the boundaries of live dance and music performance. Beatbox Bingo pits sound against movement in a piece inspired by the perplexing world of office politics.

Fearghus O'Conchuir's Match is a duet for two men created originally for a dance film set against the backdrop of Croke Park, Ireland's iconic stadium of traditional Gaelic games. The narrative is one of contest, where, as in relationships, sport and battle, one emerges stronger and survives longer than the other. Here they bring their muscular game indoors with the audience as spectator.

Legitimate Bodies Dance Company's HANGING IN THERE is a physical interpretation of political negotiations the world over but inspired by the Good Friday Agreement. Two men in suits wrestle, balance (on and around each other) and use irony, humour and some fancy moves to illustrate the ambiguous process negotiation. Creator/performers Nick Bryson and Damian Punch's piece is described as "simple, clever and hilarious" by The Irish Times.

Also showing at Dance Base as part of the Heads Up studio showcases will be Ponydance (Thu 21 Aug, at 16.00) and Rex Levitates (Fri 22 Aug, at 16.00). -- www.dancebase.co.uk
