Officials were rather very quick in refuting claims that the network will be compromised. According to them, the network is out of harm's way. The District Attorney's office exposed 150 user names and passwords when they entered them as evidence in the case against Terry Childs.
According to officials, the passwords entered into Exhibit A are a set of least two sets of passwords necessary to access the network. The authorities made no secret the pain they underwent to recover the accounts only to astonish people when they spilled the very usernames and passwords in the courtroom.
This could expose some of the city’s most sensible information given that all of the usernames are linked to the mayor's office and district attorney's office, multiple city agencies and departments, and the city's police department.
DA spokesperson Erica Derryck said, "The codes were always going to be used as evidence against Mr. Childs, and these passwords have been changed as part of the process of undoing a situation that began with Mr. Childs' alleged criminal conduct,"
Before his arrest, Terry Childs was a senior network administrator at the San Francisco Department of Technology (DOT).He gained control over the city’s FiberWAN network and later locked out all users by changing passwords.Authorized users could not access part of the network and Childs also gained access to sections of the network to which he is was not authorized to access.
Childs was arrested on July 13 on four felony charges of tampering with the city's FiberWAN network.
