Kaine Ranks High on Barack Obama’s VP List

If the latest reports are anything to go by, then we are about to see Virginia governor Tim Kaine alongside US Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama on the same campaign trail.

According to sources close to governor Tim Kaine, the Virginia governor has revealed that they have had had "very serious" conversations with Presidential Candidate Barack Obama about the possibility of him being Obama’s running mate.

Tim Kaine is also famous for being the first governor outside Illinois to endorse Barack Obama.Sources close to the Governor now claim that the committee selected to choose Obama’s running mate is studying Tim Kaine’s papers background and his ability to canvass votes for Mr. Obama.

Whereas Tim Kaine appears to have an upper hand because he is the popular governor of a critical swing state, the vetting committee is said to be studying the possibility of Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden being Vice President.

Even after clinching the Democratic Candidate accolade, Obama has given little or no information on whom he wants to be his running mate. He recently set up a vetting committee to handle the task. It is anticipated that the announcement is likely in mid-August, shortly before the start of the Democratic National Convention or even before the start of the Olympic Games.

Obama’s Spoke man denied the rumor when asked to comment if Tim Kaine ranked high on Obama’s list. However, several people who have spoken to Kaine directly said he has talked about the seriousness of the possibility.

Kaine endorsed Senator Barack Obama early in the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries. Kaine's support of Senator Obama's presidential bid began in February 2007. Kaine's endorsement was claimed to be the first from a statewide elected official outside of Illinois to endorse Obama's bid. As a popular and successful governor of a southern state, Kaine might be a choice for vice-president.

We wait to see if the rumors are true, but Kaine’s lack of foreign policy experience might be an undoing for him to be America’s next number two.

NO anti choice VP please

Susan Guberman-Garcia's picture

The selection of a virulently anti choice male politician like Governor Kaine as VP would be a slap in the face to the women who have supported Obama from the beginning, and to the Hillary voters whose support is needed now. We CANNOT have a tie vote in the senate awarded to a man who wants to repeal Roe v Wade, opposing mandatory insurance coverage for contraception, and wants to ban stem cell research.
