The NYSE Group, Inc. today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of July 15, 2008.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to 18,610,207,233 from 18,125,425,324 shares on June 30, 2008.
The short interest on July 15 was equal to a record 4.86 percent of the total shares outstanding.
The short interest in warrants as of July 15 amounted to 505,375 warrants, compared to 1,093,734 warrants the previous period.
As of the settlement date, there were 3,690 stocks and 12 warrants available for trading. Of these, 3,173 issues had either a short position of at least 5,000 shares or a change of 2,000 shares since the last monthly report.
