Los Angeles Struck By Strong Earthquake

Los Angeles is rattled by a very strong earthquake one hour ago. U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude is 5.4. All lines are busy and jammed. It's hard to get information. However, no reports of any major damages are coming from L.A.

Earlier U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude was 5.8, however now they have downgraded it to 5.4.

The L.A. earthquake happened at 11.42 Pacific Time in the greater Los Angeles area.

We see some cracks on the road and obviously there will be traffic jammed huge traffic lines.

Looks like the internet is working and we will appreciate if you comment below if you are from Los Angeles, please let us know if there are any more reports on injuries. CNN reporter reads that her cell phone is out, so looks like the phones are not working properly in some areas. However, apparently texting is working.

CNN reports that Disnely Land is being evacuated.

CNN's Ed Lavandera was at Disneyland in Anaheim, southeast of Los Angeles, with his family and felt the temblor. He said the shaking lasted about 5 seconds.

CNN affiliate KABC is reporting that Disneyland's rides have been evacuated.

Lavandera was standing in line for a ride when he saw the ride's top "shaking back and forth."

You could hear the metal kind of clanging around, and the ride was just ending, so for a moment ... I thought maybe something was wrong with the ride. Then I realized the ride had already stopped moving and the ground was still moving," he said.

What Should You Do

Authorities are saying inspect your home, if you smell some gas, call them an LEAVE THE HOUSE. Check your house for cracks and water leaks.

#1 Shaking was longer than 5

Shaking was longer than 5 seconds. Reports are between 15 to 20 seconds.

It was a long one, for sure. And little to no warning, either. Hit very fast.

No reports of injuries, but many buildings and schools have been evacuated. It was the strongest earthquake I've felt since the Northridge one in 1994.

#2 I live in downtown Los

I live in downtown Los Angeles and the earthquake felt pretty intense.

My cell phone hasn't been working since it happened an hour ago. I can receive text messages, but it won't let me send them and when I attempt to call out it says "call failed."

I have heard sirens, but everyone seems to be going about business as usual.

#3 LA

It was really weak as soon as u left the immediate area where it was centered cuz it was deep below the crust.... I really didnt feel much and Im in North Hollywood about 20 miles north of the center... for a 5.4 it was weak surely ive felt 4.7 in 2007 was more powerful to the senses since it was right on the surface

#4 Earthquake

So far, so good but cell phone service is still down for most save for text messaging. I work in an office about 10 miles from the epicenter and I've got to say that it certainly rocked us. Seemed to be a pretty good rattle for about 8 seconds or so.

#5 Earthquake

I live in Moorpark and felt the rolling action of the earthquake. No shaking or rattling, just a strong roll for several seconds. Did not feel any aftershocks.

#6 Shakin' in Silver Lake

We felt it pretty strongly in Silver Lake, up in the hills. The house was rockin' and rollin', and my poor dogs were running hysterically from room to room and getting startled by the load creaking coming from the walls and ceiling. Seemed to last around 20 seconds or so. Didn't feel the aftershocks, except the first one, which was confirmed by the window frame rattling. This ain't got nothin' on the Northridge quake! (actually, it kinda felt like aftershocks of the Northridge quake)
