White iPhones Are Cracking

I noticed something very upsetting today, my iPhone was beginning to crack. It is a very minor crack but it is really frustrating since I’ve only had my iPhone for a few days now. The crack has formed between the metal surrounding the screen and the metal volume button. It looks like hairline stress fracture to me.

It is a little difficult to notice, but since I have, my eyes are clearly focused on it right now, it’s bothersome. I don’t think it is such a big deal but then again, I just got this iPhone and paid a fortune for it so there should not be any problems with it in week one.

Should I go to the Apple store and try to get a replacement? I guess it is worth a shot. What do you guys think? Has this happened to anyone else?

There have been discussions about this on Apple’s support discussion forums as well as a few other places. I’m still pretty upset about this. If this happened a couple months down the road I probably wouldn’t care. But since I just got it, it’s a little ridiculous that something like this has happened to a brand new product. Keep in mind that I never dropped it or anything like that.

People have been saying that there have been no reports of any issues like these on black iPhones. I have seen a number of issues relating to white iPhones. I think I’m going to call Apple support in the morning and see what they say. If they will send me a new one, fantastic, if not, I’ll go to the Apple store. If they give me a new one, again, that would be great, if not, I will have to live with it (after some complaining however).

I’m starting to wish that Apple hadn’t cheaped out with the plastic backs on the iPhone 3G.

I went to the Apple store to see a genius, basically since it is not a ‘known’ issue and is just cosmetic, they can’t replace it because nothing is malfunctioning. I hope Apple realizes that this is a problem soon. I looked at all the display models, there was maybe 6 white ones, one of them had a faint crack beginning to develop but the rest were fine. It wasn’t very apparent like it is on mine though.
