iPhone 3G problems - Data, Apps Crashing, Slow Syncs

It’s been about a week and a half since I got my iPhone 3G. Besides the little crack on my 3G White iPhone and the fact that data is not always working and apps keep crashing, it’s been a pretty good experience so far.

I don’t know why this keeps happening but quite frequently I have problems with data loading. It could be because that the Rogers/Fido network is overloaded with 6gb data plans and everyone using it at the same time. If you refresh the page, it seems to work however.

See the accompanying image of the error message that comes up.

Another problem that has started to plague me recently is the fact that apps keep crashing. It happens to Safari and a couple other programs that I got from the App Store. I could just be surfing around and all of a sudden Safari quits and goes back to the home screen. This is also happening when I’m playing some games. I haven’t tested out all of my apps yet but it seems to be happening when playing Texas Holdem intermitently and every time the race begins while playing Cro-Mag rally. It’s starting to get a little frustrating. Maybe it’s happening because I have a couple apps from the US App Store and my iPhone is logged into my Canadian account most often. It’s hard to tell because like I said, it’s only been a week and a half so far.

The third problem I keep having is that syncs take half an hour. It shouldn’t take more than 10 seconds to sync unless you are putting a bunch of songs or apps onto your iPhone. Again, maybe it’s because I have US apps. The other thing I don’t get is why the iPhone is constantly backing up itself in iTunes which also takes half an hour. I just end up canceling it before it’s finished because I don’t have the patience. I let it back up fully before, why is it taking so long now?

I read on the Apple support pages that a solution to these problems is to restore your iPhone. That should fix the apps crashing part anyway. Apparently the firmware that shipped with your iPhone is older than what is currently from available from iTunes (5a345 vs 5a347). It’s good that you get to download apps again for free unless songs from iTunes. At least you can’t say it’s because I jailbroke my iPhone that problems are happening.
