Blackpool's Grand, the ever forward-thinking theatre, has engaged a dedicated Education and Access Officer, Mr Ian Lamond, with effect from Monday 18th August 2008.
Ian's role is to identify the needs of young people in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre with regards to the Grand Theatre and produce a strategy to encourage them to experience the world of arts and entertainment. He will visit schools and colleges across the region to promote the Grand and co-ordinate workshops with visiting companies, produce relevant literature, create a dedicated online presence for education and access and programme Lawrence House Skills Workshops.
He will also review the Grand's award-winning access status to ensure the theatre remains accessible to all, research and produce an action plan to implement any requirements and liaise with all departments to assist him in the delivery of his agenda.
Ian has previously worked with Wyre Borough Council as Arts and Events Officer; prior to which he was Blackpool Festival Officer. Ian has also been Barnet Community Arts Officer and has been involved in the arts since 1991.
He said of his new role: "I'm thrilled to become a member of the Grand Theatre family. The Grand is a beautiful theatre and an integral part of the local community. This new role is a big challenge, but a very exciting and rewarding challenge and one I shall certainly enjoy undertaking.
"It's actually a bit of a homecoming for me as I do have quite a bit of history already with the Grand - years ago I was part of a very enthusiastic singathon group formed to raise money to save the theatre when it was threatened with demolition!"
Grand Theatre General Manger and Chief Executive, Neil Thomson, said: "To reinforce Ian's commitment to the Grand, he has served both Blackpool Council and Wyre Borough Council in recent times and has an extensive knowledge which perfectly encompasses the role. We hope to further develop the position in due course." -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
