Connecticut families will "Dance, Sing, and Play" at the 2008-2009 Hartford Symphony Family Matinee Series, featuring special guests Magic Circle Mime Company, as well as student soloists and ensembles. Marc Kaplan of West Hartford will guest conduct this three concert series, designed to give children and families a fun, interactive classical music experience.
Marc Kaplan says, "I am very excited about conducting the Family Matinee Series, whose focus this year is how audiences and performers can dance, sing, and play with music. By giving the audience auditory, visual, and kinesthetic avenues, the possibilities for learning, fun, and enjoyment are unending. And the best part about these concerts is that they are completely interactive, so don't plan on sitting quietly in your chair! I am honored and humbled to stand up in front of the Hartford Symphony and can't wait to share these concerts with a sold-out audience."

Described as "energetic and stylish" by Jon Lender, West Hartford native Marc Kaplan is recognized as one of the finest music educators in America. In 2002, Marc became a faculty member at King Philip Middle School and Hall High School, where he received national recognition for his innovative programs that transferred ownership of the music-making from himself to his students. As Kaplan and his student groups gained more exposure, he was invited to lead the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and his own youth choir at the 2005 "Search for a Star" POPS! concert, at which Hartford Symphony Music Director Edward Cumming described Kaplan as "a ball of fire." Kaplan will lead the Hartford Symphony Orchestra for both the 2008-2009 Family Matinee Series and 2008-2009 Discovery Series, as well as the "Symphony In The Schools" Chamber Concerts.
