According to investment bank Piper Jaffray, Apple may hold a special event next month to usher in a new array of iPods and Mac notebooks. Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray in a note circulated to investors on Wednesday said that he expects Apple to host a special event in early September and announce new iPods and Mac portables.

According to Gene Munster, it’s mind boggling to see the current MacBook touch lasting until 2010.

In his note, obtained by TMO, Mr. Munster noted that Apple has had an iPod launch event in early September for the past three years.
"We expect redesigned MacBooks and MacBookPros, and a new iPod touch," he wrote in the note he sent to investors.

Gene Munster says that he expects Apple to re-enter the US$999 price point previously occupied by the iBooks with new MacBooks. This means that the MacBook Pros will be redesigned for the first time since the first PowerBook G4 was released almost five and half years ago.

Mr. Munster also hinted briefly on the iPod by saying that,” Specifically, we believe Apple will increase the capacity of the iPod shuffles as well as the iPod nanos; redesigned form factors for the shuffles and nanos are unlikely. We believe the iPod touch may be redesigned and may enter the $199 price point, in line with the iPhone."

The note also had a comment on the alleged "MacBook touch." Mr. Munster says that they don’t share the view that Apple will introduce in September, a portable Mac based on the multi-touch technology in the iPhone and iPod touch.

He agreed that Apple is currently testing some form of "MacBook Touch" using a touch screen as the primary input but he says that such a product can’t be released at the moment .According to him, 2010 looks more likely.

Mr. Munster also said that they expect a smaller version of the 13-inch MacBook Air to be introduced as early as 2009.
