Men Who Shipped Marijuana to Mayor’s Home Arrested

Police in Prince George announced today that they have arrested a deliveryman and one other man believed to be behind last week’s shipping of unopened 32-pound package of marijuana to the wife of the mayor of Berwyn Heights.

The police also said that there is strong evidence to link the two with involvement with a scheme to smuggle 417 pounds of marijuana by shipping packages addressed to unsuspecting recipients.

Prince George's County narcotics officers and Prince George's County sheriff's deputies removed an unopened 32-pound package of marijuana in a July 29 raid on the home of Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo and his wife.

The 32 pound package shipped through Fed-Ex addressed was addressed to Tomsic. During the raid, law enforcement officers broke down Calvo's door and shot and killed the family's two black Labrador retrievers.

Reports indicate that there was no apology from Prince George's Police Chief Melvin C. High and so far, the Calvos have not been exonerated completely in the case.

According to the police, five or six other similar deliveries made in recent days to addresses where people inside had no knowledge of the delivery. This shows that the Calvos are likely innocent but the police say they are still carrying on further investigations.

One of the men was described as an independent contractor who worked as a package deliveryman. By press time, the names of the arrested men had not yet been established.

He said police investigating the case uncovered a separate and parallel scheme to use the package delivery system to send marijuana, arresting two other men today in connection with that conspiracy and seizing an additional approximately 100 pounds of marijuana.

When asked about his comment, Calvo said, "We're recovering right now." "There was no physical injury, but the trauma runs deep."
Calvo also revealed that the sheriff's department did not show him a copy of the warrant used to enter his home until three days after the raid.

Calvo said that he doesn’t know why the package was shipped to his home. Some people have suggested that the raid might have been politically-motivated.
