Dayton Orchestra To Perform At St. Christopher's Church

On August 10 at 2 pm, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Band will delight the public at St. Christopher's Church in Vandalia with the works of a wide variety of musical masters.

Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds will conduct, and John Gorretta – Vandalia-Butler High School Band Director – will guest-conduct, as the DPO Concert Band – along with members of the Vandalia- Butler High School Band – perform classical pieces, Broadway show tunes, and marches, with a sprinkling of Americana.

The program opens with the Free Lance March (Sousa), Olympic Fanfare (Williams), Flight of the Pegasus (Shaffer), Suite of Old American Dances (Bennett), Eire (Donahue), Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral (Wagner), Someone To Watch Over Me (Gershwin), and They Can't Take That Away From Me (Gershwin). An American in Paris (Gershwin) rounds out the first half of the performance.

Following intermission, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Band concludes with the Hounds of Spring (Reed), Tribute to Artie Shaw (Christensen), Beyond the Higher Skies (Sheldon), Hymn to the Fallen (Williams), and Stars and Stripes Forever (Sousa).
