Morales Emerges Triumphant in Bolivia

Exit poll results are coming out in Bolivia and Evo Morales emerged as triumphant winner getting more vote percentage than he got during his election, reports France 24. Now Morales eyes on changing the Constitution of Bolivia and changing the country.

Earlier Radio Netherlands reported the following:

Polls have closed and voting in Bolivia's recall referendum passed off peacefully. President Evo Morales called the referendum in an attempt to end a protracted power struggle with provincial governors demanding more autonomy. The referendum will decide whether the president and eight of the country's nine provincial governors should stay in office. The governors of Bolivia's wealthier provinces object to handing over what they term 'a disproportionate share' of their oil and gas revenues to the government.

However, President Evo Morales believes the money generated by Bolivia's natural resources should benefit all Bolivians, including the poorer, mostly indigenous, people living in other provinces.

Pre-poll surveys suggest two or three of governors may be voted out, but the president need not fear for his job. According to the regulations governing the plebiscite, Mr Morales will lose if more than 53.7 percent vote against him. That is the percentage of voters that elected him to the presidency in December 2005.

The government had imposed extensive security measures to prevent any unrest during Sunday's vote.
