The musical comedy earned three Oscars, including awards for Best Art Direction, Best Music and Best Sound. Hello, Dolly! features a talented cast that includes Barbra Streisand as Dolly Levi, Walter Matthau as Horace Vandergelder, and Michael Crawford as Cornelius Hackl.
Dolly has a mission to marry Horace Vandergelder, "the well known, unmarried, half-amillionaire." Through her mission, Dolly manages to match up several other individuals in the process. The film is based on the popular Broadway musical, which was in turn based on Thorton Wilder's play, The Matchmaker.
The film contains many memorable songs, including "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Ribbons Down My Back," "Before the Parade Passes By," "Elegance," "It Only Takes a Moment" and, of course, the famous title song. Legendry jazz musician Louis Armstrong, who had a huge hit with the title song, makes a cameo appearance in the film.
