The International Space Settlement Design Contest held at Houston in Texas in which the students designed a possible city on moon.

The winning team beat out squads from countries like Australia, Canada, the US, Pakistan, Uruguay, and Romania.

The event was organised by Anita Gale and Richard Edwards from Boeing in collaboration with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Apeejay's principal Ranjana Sood said.

NASA teams comprised 12 teams from across the world with each team having 12 high school students at the International finals, the principal said.

The 12 invited teams were then combined to form four companies (comprising students of different schools) and asked to make a design in 41 hours.

Apeejay team was combined with two US teams -- Durango High School and Richard Montgomery High School -- to form a company named Vulture Aviation.

At the end of the 41-hour session on 28th July, each company was given 30 minutes to deliver a formal presentation before NASA scientists which declared company 'Vulture Aviation' as winners.

"We are dedicated to bring about a new era in the modern world i.e. the era of space colonisation and to that end we are training to become astronauts of the future," said Mohit Thukral, Captain of the team.
