Air Travel is becoming more and more expensive due to the rising gas prices. Also new flight taxes contribute to making air travel a luxury.
Airline tickets are 25 percent more expensive in the Netherlands than a year ago. Statistics Netherlands says the increase is due to high fuel prices, which airlines are partly passing on to their customers.
A new flight tax introduced on 1 July has added to the price rise.
KLM is one of the airlines that has repeatedly increased its fuel surcharge. Currently it charges 41 euros extra for European flights.
On intercontinental flights, the charge is 133 euros for flights under nine hours and 147 euros for longer trips.
