Learn About Classical Music

As part of its Concerts for Children series, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra presents to its young audiences two delightful performances of The Listener at Esplanade on September 6. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra will be joined by artists from the Magic Circle Mime.

The conductor has planned to present a concert exploring the many art forms in which the orchestra is involved, but his efforts are complicated by the unexpected participation of two overtly enthusiastic spectators. A bugle playing mime who wants to sing opera and a tap dancing ballerina are just two zany characters bringing “the art of listening” to life.

Featured works include Britten’s A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, Bernstein’s Candide Overture, Shostakovich’s Polka from The Age of Gold, Bizet’s Les Toreadors from Carmen Suite No. 1, Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Little Swans from Swan Lake as well as Mozart‘s Symphony No. 39.

Magic Circle Mime Company is regarded as one of today's premier family attractions. Their highly acclaimed performances, which unite the concert orchestra with visual theatre, are consistently praised for imaginative and innovative content.

Magic Circle Mime Company performs with virtually every major orchestra in North America and has performed on many occasions with the Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, Montreal, Saint Louis, Seattle and Toronto; the Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra; and with the National Symphony Orchestra. -- www.sso.org.sg
