Little Piano Pieces With Yefim Bronfman

During its composition, Brahms tended to describe his Second Concerto in humble terms and referred to it as “little piano pieces”, but it would turn out to be an instant success. On August 23, pianist Yefim Bronfman will perform the concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

Born in Tashkent in the Soviet Union, Yefim Bronfman, 50, is widely regarded as one of the most talented virtuoso pianists today. As a “Perspectives” artist at Carnegie Hall for the 2007-08 season, Bronfman partnered some of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors including the Vienna Philharmonic with Valery Gergiev, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with Mariss Jansons, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra with James Levine, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. An exclusive SonyBMG artist, Bronfman won a Grammy award in 1997 for his recording of the three Bartok Piano Concertos with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Winner of the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Music, Christopher Rouse’s Trombone Concerto was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and dedicated to the memory of Leonard Bernstein. It will be performed by trombonist Allen Meek. Hailing from Fairfax, Virginia in the United States, Meek joined the SSO as its Principal Trombone in 1998.

He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. -- www.sso.org.sg
