Georgia On My Mind: This Is Not Our Fight

And while I'm thinking, we should stay as far away from this conflict as possible, (I mean don't we have enough problems?) our war-mongering Republican Presidential candidate takes sides for us, declares that we are all Georgians, even before we are able to figure out what's going on, and our War-monger in Chief sends troops to Georgia for "humanitarian" purposes.

I am not running for President, but if I were interested in doing humanitarian work, I'd send food and medicine, the Red Cross, money, flowers... not American soldiers.

The mainstream press has been overly pro-Georgia. It has been difficult to determine the underlying causes for the conflict, most reports fault Russia for disapproving of Georgia's move to join NATO. I was able to find some dissent from the mainstream media on a few websites, the Nation, and Truthout. Georgia is being painted as a small nation struggling for Democracy, heroic and dwarfed by it's huge skulking neighbor.

But Georgia is not really a natural ally of the United States, and no matter how loudly they proclaim their democratic intentions, their human rights record is not exactly stellar. America has not been truly wise in it's choice of allies in the last few decades, and we are not capable (financially or militarily) of another conflict or proxy war, our military isn't even up for the current conflicts that we are engaged in today.

This is not our fight.
