Independent news reports from Uzbekistan say security forces have arrested Gulbahor Turaeva, a physician and rights activist from Andijon.
The ferghana.ru news agency says Turaeva was detained on January 14 at a checkpoint on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border.
She reportedly faces charges of attempting to smuggle banned political publications into Uzbekistan.
Turaeva was one of the few Andijon residents who reported on the May 2005 bloody events to Western media.
