Butterfly Festival returns To Gainesville

The Florida Museum of Natural History will host the Second Annual Florida Butterfly Festival Oct. 13-14 at the University of Florida Cultural Plaza.

The event will feature a live native butterfly exhibit, photography contest, presentations by well-known naturalists on various butterfly-related topics and many family oriented activities.

The Florida Museum is planning the festival with community partners and more information on the photography contest and other activities will be available in the coming weeks. The Florida Museum also has announced dates for the 2008 festival, planned for Oct. 18-19, 2008.

The complete list of winners of the 2006 Florida Butterfly Festival Photography Contest, which received more than 500 entries, includes: First place, Michael Eaddy, Gainesville; second place, Bonnie Cooper, Gainesville; third place, Leon Robinson, Valrico; fourth place, J. Court Whelan, Gainesville; fifth place, Catherine White, Gainesville; honorable mention, Lance Cooper, Patricia Corapi, Fabiola Del Alcazar, Gayla Eaddy, M. Eaddy, Debbie Korfmacher, Philippe Olivier, Virginia Parnell, Leroy Simon, Andrei Sourakov, other calendar selections, Robert Carlie, M.B.
