This Kinky and kooky electro-duo put on quite a show. They are an arty pair they come for France near the French Alps (Grenoble). They have placed a new and ironic twist to the sound of their techno which stems from everything like New Wave and EBM to acid to Detroit techno and Chicago House. With Icy half sung half spoken words coming from Herve (Kitten) and the more chilled Amato (the Hacker).

Is Daft Punk the only reference point that can be made for the techno rave scene? As hard core and distinctive as it had begun in the ‘80s it appears one band has found the enjoyment of playing that is not that of the French touch. Instead in an iconographic way Miss Kittin and the Hacker are hailed to be like descendants of classic duos such as the Eurythmics. But yes, this duo have revived the ‘80s electro sound and even pre-empted electro-clash.

The two had met whilst clubbing in rave scenes and from parties, to sound sampling and mixing: they collaborated together and found their chemistry to be quite dynamic. Many of the titles to their tracks resonate that of things within contemporary pop-culture. Such as, Frank Sinatra and Suspicious Minds. Amato says he really enjoyed listening to Elvis as a child but when they recorded the cover he was in two minds as to whether he liked it. He believed “it was just a little too poppy”.

Herve felt that Miss Kittin and the Hacker had to drop their ultra-DIY set-up and advance technologically so that they may become “futuristic electro pop.” They want to evolve a little but not change too much as well so that they may retain the original essence of what is Miss Kittin and The Hacker. They are quite a spectacle as well although Herve specifically does not feel she wants any part of a “limelight” experience. However, they have had their photos taken for V magazine by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld is a fan of the duo and has been known to give Herve some freebees.

Miss Kitten and The Hacker are scheduled to come to Australia for the second time since 2003. They are quite excited about coming back to Australia and will head line the Stereosonic festival at the Showgrounds in Melbourne, Victoria. They will be here on the 5th December which is a Saturday.
