Sculptor Roland Weight and artist Bunkwaa will create live artwork to give away during the opening of an exhibition on ‘Outdoor Art’ at ART LOGIC’s Amherst Galleries.
They are two of 15 artists showing works in this exhibition that covers many different art forms (16 August 2009 from 2-5 pm at 62 Amherst Ave, Trinity Gardens - 9 minutes east of the CBD - then 17-23rd August from 2-5pm).
South Australian Sculptor Roland Weight will be making live sculpture with an oxy welder during the opening. Roland studied science but chose art for his career. “I like to have fun and make people think.” he says. “That’s what my sculptures do.”
Artist Bunkwaa, an Adelaide artist who now resides in Sydney, will also give his art creations away. ART LOGIC is flying him back to Adelaide for the SALA Festival. Jacqueline Mitchell, the exhibition curator, tells us: “Bunkwaa creates enticing characters; they are so cute and cuddly, but each has their own set of claws.”
Jane Smeets, a participating artist, gives an insight on why artists choose to do this: “Onlookers love to discover the logic behind the art creation process; it’s like a mystery being unraveled. An artist’s life can be lonely; their work requires endless solitary, focused input. Creating art in public makes the process real for the artist.”
Other SA artists will also create art live at the opening. For more information about this unique SALA exhibition contact ART LOGIC at www.artlogic.com.au , info@artlogic.com.au or 0432 924 305.
