Here is a nice holiday gift from Google. The company will provide free Wi-Fi at US airports through January 15, 2010.
With some travelers spending more time on the ground in airports than on planes during the busy flying season, now seemed an especially fitting time to offer up the perk, Google said.
The list includes the international airports in Miami and Orlando, which are among the world's 30 busiest airports. Five other airports in Florida are included as well as busy airports such as Las Vegas, San Jose, Boston, Baltimore, Burbank, Houston, Indianapolis, Seattle, St. Louis and Charlotte. Travelers through smaller airports, such as Montana's Billings and Bozeman, will also benefit.
"This is one of our holiday gifts to our users, and when you connect, we also hope you'll take the opportunity to try some of the latest Google products," the company said in a statement.
Google also gives you the option to make someone else happy, too; once you log in to one of the Wi-Fi networks, you’ll have the option to donate to Engineers Without Borders, the One Economy Corporation or the Climate Savers Computing Initiative. Additionally, Google will match the donations made across all the networks up to $250,000. Finally, the airport network that generates the highest amount per passenger by January 1, 2010 will receive $15,000 to donate to the local nonprofit of their choice.
This initiative comes on the heels of another similar holiday gift; recently, Virgin America and Google started offering free in-flight Wi-Fi for passengers. See the video footage about Google's free Wi Fi and how Yahoo! wants to cope with it in NYC.
