The Sibelius Violin Concerto is one of the most beautiful works in all the violin repertoire, and one of the most demanding for the soloist - and 17-year old prodigy Eugene Ugorski is more than up for the task. Under the steady hand of brilliant Estonian conductor Eri Klas, Shostakovich's revolutionary masterpiece Symphony No.15 will explode to life on the Orpheum stage.
Eugene Ugorski is one of the most exciting young violinists to emerge in recent years. Having just turned 17 years of age, Ugorski has performed concerti with orchestras in Western Europe, Russia, Canada, the USA and South America, working with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Andrey Boreyko, Keith Lockhart and Roberto Minczuk. Mr. Ugorski made his North American orchestral debut at the age of eight with the San Diego Symphony, and has been thrilling audiences and critics alike since.
The great Estonian conductor Eri Klas is equally in demand throughout North America and in Europe. Mr. Klas is currently the Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra; Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic in Finland and the Tallinn Philharmonic in Estonia; and Principal Guest Conductor of the Finnish National Opera; and Music Advisor of the Moscow New Opera. He has guest conducted the Berlin, Munich and Rotterdam Philharmonics and appears regularly with the Tonhalle Orchestra, the Swedish and Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Stockholm and Helsinki Philharmonics as well as with orchestras in France, Italy, Belgium, Russia and Australia.
The Concert will take place on Saturday & Monday, January 27 & 29, 8pm, at Orpheum Theatre. -- www.vancouversymphony.ca
