Wipro announces a Retail Centre of Excellence, expansion plans in Portugal

The Hon. President of Portugal, H.E. Prof. Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva today inaugurated Wipro's Retail Learning Center as a part of his official visit to the company. The Retail Learning Center is a key enabler in strengthening Wipro's Oracle Retail competencies globally.

Wipro Technologies also announced the setting up of its retail Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Portugal. The CoE will demonstrate the strength of Wipro's retail offering, evangelize the usage of frontier technologies and bring in best practices.

Sudip Banerjee, President, Enterprise Solutions Division, Wipro Technologies, said, "With our acquisition of Enabler, Portugal has become a key hub for our global retail business. Wipro's retail Centre of Excellence in Portugal will cater to the need of global retailers and will work on developing solutions and deployment skills that can help improve their business performance."

The Wipro Retail Center of Excellence will add significant value to the industry with professionals focused on helping retailers achieve competitive advantage through technology. The center will have global expertise in retail disciplines including merchandising, planning, optimization, analytics, store operations, RFID, supply chain and enterprise application integration.

Wipro will additionally set up three development centers for Oracle Retail: one in Portugal to address the European market, one in Brazil to address the Latin American market and also support the US as a near shore center and one in India to address all APAC markets and also as an offshore delivery hub.

Europe has been one of the fastest growing markets for Wipro. For the fiscal year 2005-06, Revenues from Wipro's the European operations delivered 48% growth rate and contributed more than 32% to Wipro's IT Services revenues.

Wipro Technologies had acquired Portugal based retail solutions provider Enabler on June 1st, 2006. Enabler is a preferred integrator of Oracle Retail (Retek) solutions and a provider of Retail consulting services for global retailers - Wipro Technologies.
