Ulster Orchestra Scoops Awards

The Ulster Orchestra has won the overall Arts Award at the eighth Arts & Business NI Awards, sponsored this year by Allianz. The Orchestra won the category for its nurturing of arts business partnerships and its skills in developing new and innovative partnerships.

The Orchestra also won the Arts, Business and Diversity award for its work with L'Estrange & Brett Solicitors on a highly successful interactive musical project for children with hearing impairments.
The Arts & Business Awards recognise and reward those individuals, businesses and arts organisations which have invested time and energy in developing successful arts and business relationships at a local level during the past year.

"This is wonderful news in our 40th anniversary season," said David Byers, the Ulster Orchestra's Chief Executive. "People don't always realise the great work that goes on quietly in the background. The hearing impaired scheme used the talents of our horn-player Chris Blake and double bassist, Ricky Matson, and it represents the tip of the iceberg. The overall Arts Award is a real encouragement at a time when the Government's arts funding in Northern Ireland is the lowest in these islands by a long chalk. The support of the business community cannot be underestimated." -- www.ulster-orchestra.org.uk
