Mary Fukushima, a DMA flute student studying under David Fedele, assistant professor of flute, and Michael Kirkendoll, a DMA piano student studying under Jack Winerock, professor of piano, make up DuoSolo. DuoSolo was chosen to perform at the church after an audition last year.
DuoSolo is devoted to performing music of living composers, including commissioning new works, such as The Ruin of the Cypress, a new work by Forrest Pierce, KU assistant professor of music composition. This new piece will have its world premiere at the spring concert.
"Mary and I traveled to New York last October and gave a 15-minute live audition for the producers of the Concerts at One series at Trinity Church,"Â Kirkendoll said. "We played excerpts of three pieces from our contemporary repertoire, and they invited us to perform at the church. We are very excited to perform in NYC and to have the opportunity to premiere the new work by Professor Pierce, as well as new works by David Rakowski."Â
The concert will take place at on February 12, 2007. -- www2.ku.edu
