Chance To Dance In Yorkshire

Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT) and Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) are holding open dance classes across Yorkshire on selected Sunday's from 21 January - 4 March. The open days are an opportunity for young dance enthusiasts from across Yorkshire to sample a ballet or contemporary dance class and learn more about the Yorkshire Young Dancer (YYD) Scheme. The open days are free and must be booked in advance.

The YYD scheme provides the opportunity for children to access high quality dance training that will equip them with the necessary skills to go on to further professional vocational dance training. At the open days young people aged 10-12 can sample a classical ballet lesson with NBT, and young people aged 13-17 can experience NSCD's contemporary dance training. All participants will learn about the training offered on the YYD scheme, which looks for potential in young people between the ages of 10-17, and no previous dance experience is required.

Annemarie Donoghue, Classical Training Manager at Northern Ballet Theatre, said: "The open days will hopefully give young people in Yorkshire an insight to the YYD Scheme taught by two major dance establishments. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people aged 10-17, and with means tested financial support available it makes the programme accessible to everyone."

The scheme is supported by the Department for Education & Skills, which provides access to the best available training for young people with exceptional talent in the UK. -- www.northernballettheatre.co.uk
