To address the noise issue that the G10 had, Canon has changed the sensor in the G11 to a 10 MP CCD from the 14.7 MP one in the G10. The camera will still have the same 28-140mm equivalent lens as the older model, but features some improvements that will hopefully please the serious and professional photographers looking for a serious point and shoot camera.
While the G11 looses a bit in size of the LCD screen, it is now 2.8 inches, Canon has given this camera a wonderful feature in a tilt and swivel LCD screen. This feature makes it easy to photograph at odd angles and it is hard to get in position to look at the LCD.
The G11 also has a higher flash sync speed of 1/2000th of a second, which will be a feature the more serious photographers will appreciate. Canon also included a HDMI output for viewing high definition still images on HDTV.
Canon has listed that the suggested price for the new G11 to be just at $500; pricing it in the more serious point and shoot digital camera range. The G11 are scheduled to ship sometime in October just in time for the holiday season.
