At the last Camping World Truck Series race in Nashville, Ron Hornaday set a record for the series and joined two other NASCAR legends Richard Petty and Bobby Allison for five straight victories which they each did in 1971. Petty holds the record with ten straight wins in the 1967 season. Tonight at Bristol Motor Speedway, Hornaday will go for his sixth straight win.
Hornaday has a perfect starting position to go after this record. He qualified his KHI Georgia Boot Chevy truck in 3rd position. His teammate and Sprint Cup driver, Ryan Newman will lead the field at the start of the race by grabbing the pole for the Camping World Truck Series O’Reilly 200.
Bristol is a tough short track and passing often means rubbing on other trucks. Even with his great starting position Hornaday will have his work ahead of him tonight, but recent race history shows that he is capable of such a feat.
Only a half-mile in length, the concrete oval shape track, unlike most tracks that are asphalt, Bristol Motor Speedway is known as Thunder Valley due to the roar of the engines as the trucks completely cover the race track during the race. Hornaday has conquered this short track winning the Bristol races in both 1997 and 1998.
Getting great restarts is one talent Hornaday is known for. Bristol often has lots of caution flags due to the constant side-by-side racing and this will just create even more excitement for the race.
Leading the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series by 216 points over Matt Crafton, Hornaday is not only going for a sixth straight win. He is looking to increase his series high wins of 45 and to keep working towards his fourth series championship. Another record he holds for the truck series with fellow driver Jack Sprague.
