Roush Fenway Racing driver David Ragan passed his teammate Carl Edwards for his second NASCAR Nationwide Series win of his career at the Bristol Motor Speedway’s Food City 250. It was also his second of the season, with his first coming at Talladega in April.

The race was packed with typical short track racing. Leaders often had a hard time passing lap cars and the cars they were racing for position. The third caution came out when Brad Keselowski slipped up into Justin Allgaier while racing for the lead. Keselowski started on the pole for the race after an eventful day of rumors of him going to race for Penske Racing in the Sprint Cup next year.

Allgaier blew a tire and hit the wall. Keselowski received some right front damage to his car. NASCAR made him come in during the caution to repair the damage costing him valuable track position. Keselowski was able to work his way back to finish in third position. This was his sixth straight top 10 finish.

Shortly after the restart for the third caution, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and points leader Kyle Busch battled for the top position. Busch went on the outside of Harvick, but ran into a lap down car as he was finishing the pass for the lead coming off of turn four.

Rookie driver Chase Austin had blown a right front tire due to a suspension malfunction and did not realize the leaders were coming up on him fast. Austin turned down into the leaders just as Busch was passing him on the inside bringing out the red flag to clear up the debris on the track. Busch suffered major damage to his car. Reed Sorenson was running ninth at the time of the wreck and also suffered major damage to his car ending his night.

Busch had worked his way to the lead after starting in the 15th position. Busch’s crew worked on the car behind the wall and repaired the damage. He was able to come back out many laps down finishing in the 28th position. Busch’s points lead was cut by 91 points to 248 points over Carl Edwards.

Sprint Cup regular, Kevin Harvick led most of the middle part of the race. He was leading when he got into the back of Trevor Bayne while he was trying to put Bayne down a lap. Harvick finished in the fourth place.

Ragan started the race in ninth place and quietly worked his way towards the front of the field. He passed Edwards and was in the lead when a late race caution came out bunching up the field again. Ragan selected to restart on the outside with Edwards on his inside.

Ragan pulled away from Edwards when they restarted with just three laps to go. A wreck on the last lap froze the field giving Roush Fenway a one-two finish.
