GM's image has taken a beaten in the past few years and the company has decided that the image of the individual makes were better than the overall image of the parent company. So the company is shifting focus from one big corporation to the stronger individual brands by removing the silver “Mark of Excellence” GM logo from the side of all of their vehicles.
When asked by news sources, GM’s Terry Rhadigan stated that GM was “just really focused on the four core brands and this provides us with another opportunity to make sure they were at the forefront.” Those four core brands being Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. GM did a study that concluded the general public had a better opinion on those brands individually than they did of the GM brand.
GM’s decision to remove the logo is just part of the company’s new direction to build the company back to the strength it once had. It was only last month GM emerged from bankruptcy court.
As part of GM’s restructure, the company has or is in the process of stopping production of or selling off their other brands including Hummers, Saab, Pontiac and Saturn. The deal to sell Saab to Koenigsess Group AB is still being worked on.
The look of the sides of the vehicles GM makes will start looking different with some of the 2010 models. It will be a phased in process for GM to remove their logo from all of their vehicles, since some will require a redesign. Certain models have an indention for the logo to be and those models will be some of the last to still carry the GM logo.
