US Open Tennis 2009 Results Djokovic Advances to Semifinals

The 22 year old Djokovic is the number 4 seed in the 2009 US Open. He entered into the match with Verdasco having won three of their five previous matches. This time it would take four tough sets to beat Verdasco.

The wind played a major factor in the match. The heavy winds made it difficult for both players. Each committed unforced errors with Djokovic had 41 and Verdasco committed 58 unforced errors.

Djokovic won the first set in which the two players fought through long and hard rallies. Verdasco came back and dominated the second set to win it. In another hard fought third set Djokovic pulled out the win.

Djokovic would easily win the fourth set after Verdasco appeared bothered with an abdominal injury. The final score was Djokovic winning in four sets: 7-6(2), 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Regardless what the final US Open tennis 2009 result are, Djokovic has achieved his best Grand Slam showing in 2009. The 2008 Australian Open champion will face either Roger Federer or Robin Soderling in the semifinals. Federer beat Djokovic in the 2008 US Open semifinals.
