Only rain could slow down Rafael Nadal from advancing into the semifinals at the 2009 US Open. Rain stopped the play of Nadal's quarterfinal match between Fernando Gonzalez on Thursday night. The rains continued on Friday delaying postponing the inevitable US Open tennis 2009 results of Nadal moving on to the semifinals.

When the rain started for a second time during the quarterfinal match Thursday night, Nadal was leading a tight and hard fought match 7-6(4), 6-6 in the second set. Gonzalez who has now lost six consecutive matches to Nadal, had really challenged the number 3 seed during their play on Thursday. Gonzalez even had two set points in the first set that would have given him his first set win against Nadal after losing 12 previous straight sets.

While playing for the tiebreaker in the second set, the rain started again for Gonzalez. With more rain on Friday, instead of finishing the match Nadal and Gonzalez had a day of rest. When the match resumed on Saturday, it was all Nadal.

Nadal quickly won the tiebreaker to finish out the second set. After that he never looked back. Gonzalez was never in the match on Saturday.

Nadal dominated the last set and quickly defeated Gonzalez. The final score was 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-0.

Nadal has never won the US Open. Earlier this year he won the Australian Open. If the final US Open 2009 tennis results have Nadal as the men's single champion, then it will be his seventh Grand Slam Championship.
