The comeback story of Kim Clijsters continues on as she advances to the women's final on Sunday. In the women's semifinals US Open tennis 2009 results with Clijsters defeating Serena Williams without even having to play for the last point.
The match was a hard fought match with both players showing their strength and talent through out. Clijsters took an early lead in the match and went on to win the first set 6-4.
Serena Williams received a warning for a code violation after breaking her racket after losing the first set. This would not be the last warning of the night for the number 2 seed.
Clijsters again took an early lead in the second set and was ahead 6-5 when what can only be called a bizarre chain of events occurred. Serena Williams was serving and Clijsters had a 30-15 lead in the game.
Williams faulted on the first serve. On her second serve a line judge called a foot fault which meant she double faulted. This gave Clijsters a 40-15 lead. Williams went over and said something to the line judge. As a result of what she said the umpire docked a point from Williams which gave the game and match to Clijsters.
Clijsters advances to the women's final against Caroline Wozniacki on Sunday by defeating Serena Williams 6-4, 7-5. This would be Clijsters second US Open championship if she wins on Sunday. She won the title back in 2005.
The US Open is only Clijsters' third tournament back from taking over two years off from tennis. The 26 year old took some time off to get married and have a child. Clijsters has come back just as good and more mentally prepared for her matches.
The victory in the US Open tennis 2009 results in Clijsters' second victory over Serena Williams. Clijsters also defeated Serena's sister Venus in the fourth round of the 2009 US Open.
